Repainting Monster High Dolls...

So, a friend of mine recently showed me some repainted Monster High dolls and I thought... hmm... looks like fun.
Here are the fruits of my labor, a repainted Frankie Stein:

(When there are two dolls in the picture, the one on the left is the one I repainted, the other is Frankie's original paint job)

  1. Love love!! Especially the eyebrows, those are a real improvement! She looks great :D
May I ask how you got the paint off without damaging the plastic? And also what paint did you use to redo her? I've always wanted to redo some of the dolls that I have!

  2. Hi!

I used Acetone Nail Polish remover to remove her faceup... as long as you don't plan on redying her, it should be fine. If you're nervous about it, you can use Goo Gone... but for this kind of thing, Acetone gets the faceup off in about three swipes of a cotton ball.

I used to repaint My Little Ponies, and would often redye their entire body... and Acetone would make the dye job uneven, where as Goo Gone would not... but like I said... if you're not going to redye her whole head, Acetone put on some cotton balls should be fine.

Immediately after removing the faceup, give her a good rinse under some warm (not hot) water.

As for paints, I use these:

    and Liquitex.

Do NOT use the cheap craft paint, even though it is also acrylic... it will flake off.

Oh, I also buy the brushes I use from Volks... here:

They are awesome quality and have lasted a really long time. :)

If you have any other questions, let me know!
